Development Projects
The University District is home to an ever-increasing array of exceptional urban built environments, including office, lab and maker spaces, warehouse, residential and mixed-use developments. This diversity creates vibrant and desirable neighborhoods for residents, students, visitors and all who work, learn, live and play here. Below are examples of developments envisioned, underway and/or completed in The University District.
You might also visit the county SCOUT tool for development-related information at the parcel level as well as this real estate search tool on the Advantage Spokane website.
If you are a developer or investor interested in requesting funds for improvements in the public right of way for your project, please contact our CEO Juliet Sinisterra, jsinisterra@spokaneudistrict.org. You will be asked to complete an on-line application for your proposed project. The University District Development Committee evaluates all incoming requests and makes a recommendation to the UDPDA board for their final approval.
CITY DEVELOPMENT PERMITTING AND INCENTIVES
Commercial Building Review. This web portal provides City of Spokane permitting information for commercial building projects (including multi-family residential). Spokane's Development Services Center provides a "one-stop" shop for development permits and prides itself on excellent turnaround times for full route commercial permits. The typical full route permit process averages 30 days from permit submittal to issuance.
Economic Development Strategy and Incentives. This web page provides an overview of the City's economic development strategy and links to incentive programs. The University District is part of our target investment area program offering a number of incentive programs including the multi-family housing tax exemption program (MFTE) and the new Federal Opportunity Zone designation. The MFTE program is a state-authorized program that provides an 8- or 12-year exemption on property taxes for new multifamily housing units enrolled in the program. You will find a "calculator" that you can use to estimate the possible property tax savings.
MapSpokane. This is a GIS-based mapping tool providing access to multiple layers of City data and property information (with links to County Assessor parcel data).
